The New Farm Shop Arriving in Haywards Heath Posted On 11 June 2021

The artisan farm shop and cafe officially opened on June 6th

The application was only submitted in late April, but that’s not stopped this family-owned store from taking advantage of the arrival of the British summer.

Hart Country Stores is located on South Road, and was joined in its opening by Haywards Heath town mayor Howard Mundin and Mid Sussex MP Mims Davies.

Mundin spoke of his joy at seeing this venue open, and revealed that this type of attraction is exactly what was necessary for the area: ‘It has been noted that a particular type of artisanal, individual and unique retail offering for our community was needed to restore vitality to the High Street’.

The pair behind this operation is Christian Harris and his partner Daryl Ruse, along with Susan, Daryl’s mother. The pair have already launched a website for their establishment, and have emphasised their desire to ‘showcase the very best British producers whilst championing newcomers, complemented with the finest foods from around the world’.

Christian, one half the pair, spoke of his attempt to, whilst serving quality products, also do their bit to help the environment. In highlighting how he would achieve this, he cited finding items locally, as well as introducing a ‘gravity feed bin’, which will help to reduce the amount of single-use plastic being used.

One way that they will manage to promote some of the ‘very best British producers’, is to sell some of the produce which Chris’ father and brother will provide, through their farm near Wales.

And it’s not just a shop and a cafe which this venue will serve as, with the website also suggesting that their space will be available as a location suitable for workshops and tastings. They have also spoken of their keenness to make their site available for private events.

If you’re a fan of food from all over the world, then this could be the new place for you, as the pair have outlined some of the produce which they will be selling. These items include ‘Bread & pastries, wines & ales, traditional deli items such as cheese, fresh meat & fish, or seasonal fruit & vegetables’. In their cafe, they will be able to serve a unique coffee, which has been specially blended for Hart Country stores, as well as a range of alcoholic refreshments.
