The latest stats from Rightmove have revealed new property trends for Brits as we start to move out of lockdown. The pandemic has made potential buyers rethink their priorities when it comes to a property with an increase in people looking for outdoor space and bigger homes in general.
The need for outdoor space comes as no surprise, as for people who had none during the pandemic will attest to, not having a garden to escape to can lead to a pretty overwhelming and un-ideal way to live. And with biking becoming a national hobby during the lockdown, there has also been an increase in buyers looking to be in an ideal location for bike rides and also the need for secure bike storage.
Another trend is the demand for coastal town living. With more remote workers than ever, all of a sudden, people aren’t tied to living near to where they work. And with that in mind, Brits seem to be flocking to the beautiful coastal homes available, close to the sea. With the travel restrictions, Brits may also be looking for holiday homes, closer to home.
Rightmove have released data on the most popular coastal towns.
Whitby in North Yorkshire topped the list for the most in-demand coastal town, and the average asking price is £213,053
Whitley Bay in Tyne and Wear was the next most popular and offers an average asking price of £263,078
Troon in Ayrshire came third with an average house price of £165,386
Unsurprisingly, Cornwall had three towns in the top ten: Padstow, Newquay and Bude. Devon was another popular choice, albeit slightly more expensive, with a home in Salcombe averaging out at £730,213
