Lockdown lifted Posted On 12 April 2021

Stage two of the lifting of lockdown starts today, but what is opening?

As part of the ‘Roadmap’ out of lockdown, today, the 12th of April, has been a day business owners across the country have been waiting for. Not just business owners though with gyms, outside pubs and restaurants, libraries, hairdressers and beauty salons all due to open too…

The full list of what is opening today is below.

More businesses will open, but indoor settings should be visited alone, or with household groups. Outside, six people or two households can meet.

  • All shops allowed to open
  • Hairdressers, beauty salons and other close-contact services can open
  • Restaurants and pubs allowed to serve food and alcohol to customers sitting outdoors
  • Gyms and spas can reopen, as can zoos, theme parks, libraries and community centres
  • Members of the same household can take a holiday in England in self-contained accommodation
  • Non-essential journeys between England and Wales are allowed
  • Weddings – up to 15 people
  • Funerals – up to 30 people, with 15 at wakes
  • Children will be able to attend any indoor children’s activity
  • Care home visitors will increase to two per resident
  • Driving lessons can resume, with driving tests restarting on 22 April

These points are added to the existing ones, which include…

  • People can meet outside – including in private gardens – in groups of up to six, or as two households
  • The stay-at-home rule has ended, although the government asks that people “minimise travel”; holidays are still not allowed
  • Outdoor sport facilities can reopen, including golf courses, tennis and basketball courts, and outdoor swimming
  • Formally organised outdoor sports can restart
  • Weddings can take place, attended by up to six people

This morning, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson has urged everyone to ‘behave responsibly’ after the measures changed at midnight.
