Awards Season in Full Swing in West Sussex Posted On 30 April 2021

A special few have been recognised in West Sussex, as Dr Tim Fooks has revealed the winners of the 2021 High Sheriff Awards

The awards have been created to recognise outstanding individuals and organisations, who have been at the centre of helping their communities. In any normal year, the awards would be handed out during a ceremony. But as a result of the pandemic, Dr Fooks has travelled to personally congratulate each and every recipient.

Dr Fooks acknowledged the fortunate position which he has found himself in, saying that he has ‘Been able to observe countless acts of kindness and exceptional service in response to the difficulties the pandemic has brought upon us’.

One of the recipients of an award was JPIMedia in West Sussex, with Dr Fooks highlighting how important their journalists’ work has been in keeping locals up to date with all the changes amidst the pandemic. He said, ‘It gives me particular pleasure to use this opportunity to present an award to the journalists working for JPIMedia in West Sussex, who have ensured we have been kept so well-informed throughout the long periods of confusion and rapid change. It is absolutely right that central government has recognised them as key workers within our communities’.

Others who have received the award include Marilyn Le Feuvre, on behalf of  DiverseCrawley, who aim to promote diversity. A particular feature of their work was their Black History Month exhibition at Crawley Museum.

The Greenaway Foundation has also received a unique award – The Special Recognition Volunteer Award. The charity, among other ventures aims to help schools to financially support struggling families. As well as this, the charity also holds an annual event, which sees them provide all ingredients, to cook a Christmas dinner for all families in need. This event has been running for ten years, with a huge 550 families receiving food deliveries last year.

The awarding of these accolades will be Dr Tim Fooks’ last act as High Sheriff, with Mr Neil Hart, a retired solicitor, to take over the role from April 30th.
